#57 L'Auberge Provençale
Your "short ride" through the Virginia countryside is "just enough time to anticipate the surroundings and fabulous fare" at this "wonderful" Provençal-style "country inn" where the French cuisine and rare wines are "heaven on the tongue"; the prix fixe meal is so "breathtaking", you "won't want the evening to end" – but let it "if you are staying the night", as you have "an over-the-top fantastic breakfast" to look forward to in the morning.

L'Auberge Provençale is a destination for the discerning traveler and gourmand. Our cuisine will make you feel you are truly in Provence when you enjoy our nationally acclaimed cuisine. Dine evenings at the main manor house of Mt. Airy (circa 1753) in one of our three intimate dining rooms, decorated with antiques, fine art, Provençale fabrics and whimsical artifacts from France. The dining rooms at L'Auberge Provençale offer just the right setting for a quiet romantic dinner or cheerful gourmet breakfast.
"Let me be clear: There is food and then there is L'Auberge's don't just write-home-write-everyone-you-know-about-it-fare."
- Virginia Living
Every meal at L'Auberge Provençale is a special and unique occasion. Our five course dinner menu blossoms into seven courses capped off with petit fours and chocolates after dessert. At L'Auberge Provençale we use only the freshest ingredients including herbs and vegetables from our garden, and fresh fruit from our orchard. Also local farmers produce a wealth of ingredients we use in our Provencale cuisine. Executive Chef Alain Borel and his team of chefs create elegant dishes with definite seasonings as in Provence, with a light hand on the sauces; each creation pleases the eye as well as the palate. Our menus changes frequently with what is truly the best of each season.
Complement your dining experience with a Wine Spectator Award Winning Wine List with excellent wines from our extensive cellar featuring French and American Chateau wines, as well as, various appellations throughout the world.
Our staff is unfailing gracious and unpretentious and will make you feel welcome and pampered. True Southern hospitality shines through to our guests.
Our dining rooms are open to the public as well as our overnight guests.
BREAKFAST
The breakfast at L'Auberge Provençale is particularly memorable and may include homemade granola, fresh fruit and yogurt to start, followed by perhaps elegant, fruit filled crepes topped with créme fraiche, homemade croissants and breakfast breads; there are local shiitake mushrooms, sprinkled over thinly sliced breast of duck, and poached egg in a potato nest basket nestled in nutmeg spinach and cottage fries. Truly a breakfast of one's dreams.
